“Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them. So shall your offspring be.” (Genesis 15:5).
Laughter spread forth in house of Abraham when Isaac was born- the only child of Abraham and Sarah, born to them in their old age. This story is so alive, even now when we read or hear about it, a sense of awe and wonder wraps us because, we are convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that it was God behind the whole show.
But then the there is a twist. Churches preach this more than 10 times a year to different kinds of people in different situations with different revelations that changes lives forever. Why is this “twist” so significant?
Sinking in the life of enjoying your only son’s company and see him grow, Abraham still manages to keep His ears tuned to the voice of God and said, “Here I am.” My heart would pound to know that God is calling to bless more, or shower riches, honor, favor, or wealth! But even without asking Abraham, “How are you?”, God in one breath says, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Truly, God is out of His mind, else its right from the pit of hell- would be a response from many of us in this time. Shockingly, God is asking you to burn up your ONLY son? God? I mean the Great “I AM”, the Almighty? Oops. By the time we take our minds to rub into logically reasoning and understanding, Abraham wakes up early in the morning without a word of question or doubt.
That man aged more than 100 years, is “preparing” to give up his only Son, that too for three days! (Genesis 22:4). What a man! What a faith! What a God!
We all know the story as if it’s imprinted on the walls of our minds and hearts. I just have one thing to point at, “the three days”. Not just was Abraham ready to give up his Son, but also He was willing to find a special place to sacrifice him. He knew the worth of His God and he wanted to give Him the best and in the best way possible. No wonder this man was known as the “Father of Faith”.
I am sure, we all know what God wants us to sacrifice on the Moriah Mountain. Don’t simply give it up with complains or grudge. But prepare to lay your only BELONGING (thoughts, actions, friends, family, lover, career, or children) into the hands of a loving Father, who has so much to provide for you. When you give up something for God, in the midst of pain, and willingly lay them at the foot of the CROSS, there you will find YOUR LAMB. There is absolutely no way that you will not taste the goodness of Jehovah-Jireh (The Provider).
“When you prepare to lay down your only best at His feet, He has “already prepared” to bestow HIS BEST to you”.
