Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. (John12: 3- Refer also to Mark 14:3).
The boldness this woman shows is incredibly commendable! Picture this- a room filled with dignified teachers of the law, everyone, having their time of laughter and fun. In the midst of it, Mary comes in and pours the perfume on Jesus’ feet. In the Gospel of Mark it says she poured it over His head…(“And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.” Mark 14:3). Apparently, she poured the perfume all over Him. Indeed, it takes great courage to pour your all to the One who gave His all to you.
It shocks me to see a woman with no significance stand up to pour out the perfume of praise unto Jesus. There will be times in your life, where you are sinking in work, tiredness, busy-life, fun, outings, problems – whatsoever. In the middle of all that is happening around you and inside you, would you take a stand to pour out yourself to Jesus? Jesus yearns for nothing, but YOU! He doesn’t care how smart and educated you are, if you can dance and set a fabulous show, if you can sing with all those perfect vibratos, if you have been doing all the church work possible… He is not even interested so much about your ministry compared to the immense interest He has on you.
He is calling you—would you just sit at the feet of Jesus beloved One? It is the most awesome place to be in. When you pour out yourself on Him, the fragrance of Christ mantles over you and spreads everywhere you go. Your presence and your yielded heart, is the sweetest aroma to Your Father.
