“So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”” Genesis 4:6-7
There is so much gentleness in God’s voice while He is talking to Cain. He’s not mad at Him, just that the offering Cain got to the altar wasn’t worthy of God’s respect.
When sin is let to crouch in your life, even a gentle instruction seems offensive and gruesome.
God doesn’t reject Cain, if that was the case there wouldn’t have been a response. He isn’t able to accept the offering since it wasn’t the first fruit of His produce. God didn’t take the first place in Cain’s heart, only because sin (of any form) was at the doorstep of his life.
“Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,” Genesis 4:4
Beloved, Abel’s priority was to please God, so He brought the best of His produce, time and effort to Him. Even though Cain didn’t keep God first, God still chose to gently correct Him with His Words.
The Holy Spirit is gently correcting and admonishing us. Are we willing to yield and let those other bits fall off, so that God can have the First and foremast place in our lives? You can over come sin by not letting its desires overtake you.
Give Him your first and your best! Let His respect be lavished into everything that you do so that you may reap overflowing harvest.
