This Longing
“O God, You are my God; with deepest longing I will seek You; My soul [my life, my very self] thirsts for You, my flesh longs and sighs for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.” PSALM 63:1
In the midst of wonderful people, sometimes we can hear a cry of agony within ourselves. We probably don’t have to listen closely to recognize it. “The cry of loneliness”. Sometimes, it’s God orchestrated. Just so that we lean onto nothing and no one, but Him. If ever the thirst in us gets quenched with the outside goodies, then how can we discover what He has in store for us about Himself? God allows us to come to a place where absolutely nothing matters to soothe the cry of the thirst in our hearts.
The waters of this world will never be adequate. If ever we settle down to finding contentment in just a song, a gathering, or a movie; we have lowered it big time. If all of these doesn’t take us to a place of longing to dwell in His Presence (just you and God), then something else has taken our priority. “Longing for God” is a freedom lavished on the Cross for every Child of His. If we don’t choose that freedom, then our joy leaks into the pleasures and the tiredness of this mere life.

God’s presence is my greatest joy. In the midst of suffering, He’s all I have to hold onto!

Spending time with our Lord really is the only thing that brings me joy and peace to my soul. All other things are second rate!
